ECOLOGICALLY VIABLE SAILING

Picture

How all sailors today can instantly repay their debt to the sea.

Sir  David Attenborough is the perfect spokesman.
As we all wring our hands about the climate and plastic six-pack rings trapped around turtles' flippers and dolphins' noses, St David has repeated again and again, "we can all do our bit right here and right now to mitigate the ongoing disaster of plastic in our oceans and we must do it now ."

SY Fayaway is one of a number of small sailing ships who will be working in local flotillas around the Mediterranean to come together to do their share of collecting plastic.

Eco-friendly, low carbon footprint sailing can organise itself through literally thousands of like-minded people, coming together to provide each other with support, community, fun and teamwork, boat by boat or even in 10 boat, 2 mile-wide "scoop flotillas", scooping rubbish and collecting cut-away fishing nets which cause absolute havoc to the wildlife both in and out of the water in coastal fishing and sailing areas around the world.

Possibly 1000's of small ships coming together would provide significant Sea Protection Flotillas on any given day somewhere in the world.
Leisure sailors, unlike commercial shipping can access remote shores and  shallow coastal areas which no large-scale cleanup operations can reach.

Boats can buddy as mooring and diving support platforms  to cut away and collect abandoned ghost-nets in shallow seabed areas for later recycling.

To help the project we would to develop an App in which, wherever leisure sailors finds themselves, they can share positions and piloting plans to meet-up with and coordinate  like-minded plastic collection teams.

Global leisure sailors will "do our bit" otherwise by 2050 there really  will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.

10% of  SailingYoga charter and guest revenues will go directly to Fayaway Sea Protection  Project, development of the community app and associated ocean ecology activities.
Come sailing for a holiday, make a donation towards the costs, we will all help pick up sea-plastic piece by piece.
